Karen Douglas is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) with over 20 years of experience in number of industries.  Karen likes variety and has worked in diverse industries such as:

  • consumer product manufacturing;
  • internal audit for a food processing company;
  • meat packing;
  • animal feed manufacturing;
  • the restaurant industry;
  • the hotel industry;
  • and government.

Karen has held a number of traditional finance roles over the course of her career; with titles such as Accountant, Controller, Manager of Financial Planning and Reporting, and Director of Finance.  While performing those roles she also developed skills in non-traditional areas such as developing and delivering training, as well as participating in marketing activities such as being a member of an oversight strategic committee for a social marketing campaign.

As a "non-traditional accountant" with a number of skills, Karen made the transition to consulting and established Business Dreams Consulting in 2004.

Karen is a big fan of author Jack Canfield and recently attended an event where he was the featured speaker.

Even though she moved to Edmonton after the "glory days", Karen has always been passionate about Oilers hockey, and is a season's ticket holder.  Not only did she attend all the home playoff games through their Stanley Cup run in 2006, she was there for Game 7 when the "other team" won.  Having achieved the "life goal" of being in the building when the Cup was presented, she has established a new goal; being in the building when the Oilers are presented with the Cup.
