Well written, up to date financial policies and procedures add value to a large organization such as a government department.  They enable staff to understand what needs to be done (the policy) and how to comply with the policy (the procedure).  Where possible, standardized forms are provided to allow staff to simply obtain the required reviews and approvals.  Updated, well written policies and procedures also make it easy for Auditor General staff to ensure that the Department is in compliance with the expectations of the Government of Alberta. 

Providing training to government department staff is integral to achieving good results with policy compliance, and is also key to receiving good information for financial processes such as budget and forecast.  The staff members who provide information for these processes are not accountants, but are operational staff in charge of programs.  Training designed by Business Dreams Consulting always covers not only the how of budget and forecast, but the why that demonstrates how this information is used and why it is needed.  The end result is that staff can provide quality information to the processes.  Training is designed as PowerPoint presentations with full speaking notes to make it easy for  department staff to deliver further sessions of training as needed.  When applicable, "hands on" exercises or discussions about current examples are incorporated into training to ensure that staff see the applicability of the material to their work life.
